Goldfrapp - Utopia |

So, this past week was pretty amazing. Let's see how I can best sum it up.
Yes, many of you who read into my semi-cryptic entry guessed it correctly: last week I returned to Camp to be a counselor for a week. The experience was, in a word, awesome. I proved to myself that, despite my physical disability being much more apparent than it used to be, I can still cut it in the area of taking care of kids. For instance, imagine the soccer-playing Turkish counselor's surprise when he discovered that the guy who had tagged him out in Capture the Flag four times in a row had five pinched nerves. A good laugh was had by all. Also, I brought back a couple of old traditions for a week, helped two groups put on some highly entertaining drama productions, built a fire with 18 foot flames, dressed up as a pirate, got served breakfast in bed twice, and beefed up my repertoire of jokes and silly stories. Was it strange to be working alongside folks I had last seen as campers? Yeah, for about a day. By the end of the week, though, I'd like to think that I made some friends, friends with whom, I hope, I can continue to converse thanks to the wonderful intorwebs.
Then there was Saturday night's Dawning benefit. Was I nervous? Well, we had all plunked down a lot of time and money into something we weren't sure would work, so I think nervous is a good word to use. However, between a hardworking staff, some great volunteers, and some highly professional musicians, my confidence was quickly boosted enough to where, once the crowd started filing in, I was hyped and ready to pour some booze. We did have a couple of snags in the night, the most baffling of which definitely being the first opening act having to cancel because he almost got arrested, but overall the benefit was a raging success. In fact, we actually did accomplish our goal of raising money for the Dawning, itching us ever so closer to having all of our own equipment, which will make bullying ourselves into a space even easier.
The end result of all of this? I am completely, utterly, totally exhausted.
And I feel good.
